REDTAG's Fly fishing courses

Seatrouts of above 10 kg are not commonly found around the globe but

river Karup is one of the few rivers where you actually have a chance of

getting in touch with one of these magnificent fish. Generally, however,

the average seatrout is well below (approx. 4.0 kg) but offers the same 

excitement and enjoyment when it finally decides to take the fly. The river

runs through some of the most beautiful landscapes in Denmark which

in itself is worth a visit. Though two-hands rods are used by many the

river is easily fished with a single hand rod - the method introduced at

this course.

River Karup is by many locals fished at night and or late evenings when

the seatrout becomes more active especially in the summertime. There

is, however also ample opportunities to catch it in the day time as well.

The season usually begins around mid-may where you will find the first

freshly run fish in the river...

Fly fishing is the primary method used along the river and local flies have

proved their value for catching the seatrout. At the course we will get into

more detail on how to fish these flies as well as how to dress them.

This course is aimed at giving the beginning flyfisher an introduction

to fly fishing - its methods, tactics, choice of flies etc. and to introduce

participants to a classic Danish seatrout river and its beats. Generally 

the lessons lasts 3 hours each with individual guiding for participants.

 [ Day 1: 10.00 am - Briefing at the hotel about fishing, practicalities etc.]

   14.00 pm - First lessons by the river

w traditional overhead casts w mending techniques w pull/double pull w

 [ Day 2:  09.30 AM  Second lesson by the river  ]

w getting the flow  w intake  w  floating/sinking techniques w riffling hitch w

 [ Day 3:  09.30 am - Third lesson by the river ]

 The places to fish depends to some extent

w the switch cast  w on techniques when fish rises to the fly w fly tying w

 where seatrouts are located in the river. You

   14.00 am - 18.00 Visit to the seatrout centre at Trevad w night fishing w  

 will be introduced to various beats differing

 in the way you fish them and their natural

 [ Day 4: 13.30 - Fourth lesson by the river ]

w spey casting w fly fishing tactics during the season w which flies to use w

 comprehensive introduction to fly fishing...

   20.00 am Dinner with wine tasting programme (ecological reds & whites)

The Hotel is situated near the places we fish with some very fine beats

within walking distance. We try to find facilities that are certified according

toenvironmental standards (Green Key) and though not easy it is our aim

that in due time all of our suppliers of services will be certfied according

to either such standards or our own environmental standards.

Meals are included and picknicks arranged for to be taken with you to

the river. One night the chef de cuisine will serve the ultimate fish dishes

that makes the angels sing! With this dinner we will have the opportunity

to the Danish Center for the Wild salmon with guidance and information

about the Atlantic salmon, a night with a wine tasting programme offerering

excellent organically grown wines as well as a course certificate.  Drinks/

provided for by arrangement with the participants.
